Why weather matters for fragrance

Heat speeds up evaporation — your top notes disappear faster, base notes project more aggressively. A fragrance that smells balanced at 15°C can become overwhelming at 35°C.

Cold air slows evaporation, which means lighter fresh and citrus scents struggle to project at all in winter. Heavier Orientals and ambers, by contrast, bloom beautifully in the cold.

Humidity adds another layer: high humidity traps scent molecules close to the skin, boosting longevity but reducing projection. Dry weather does the opposite.

Quick temperature guide

  • Above 25°C — Fresh, Citrus, Aquatic. Light and cooling, won't suffocate.
  • 15–25°C — Floral, Fruity, Fresh Woody. The sweet spot for most fragrances.
  • 5–15°C — Spicy, Woody, Leather. Need that warmth and projection boost from cool air.
  • Below 5°C — Amber, Oriental, Gourmand. Cold air handles heavy bases well.
